Northern California Network

  • Adventist Health Lodi Memorial hosted a Child Care Provider Wellness and Appreciation Day, providing tools and resources to help combat stress and burnout. Adventist Health Lodi Memorial served 350 attendees providing BP education, checking blood pressure and distributing approximately 500 COVID tests.
  • Adventist Health Sonora
    • Adventist Health Sonora collaborated with community organizations at the Annual Love Tuolumne County Event to provide support and resources to individuals experiencing housing insecurity. Projects included landscaping for newly built homes, revitalizing Resiliency Village’s temporary housing facility and acquiring new housing for veterans experiencing homelessness.
    • Over 300 students received physicals from our providers, nurses, PT assistants, MA and front office staff at a very low cost to enable more students to play sports. No student was turned away as fee waiver vouchers were provided and parents could drop in at any time. One half of the $25 fee went to the participating high schools to support sports programs and one half will reside in a special fund to help defray costs of athletes who need financial assistance if they are injured and have any costs not covered by insurance.
    • More than 150 attendees convened at a celebration of International Women’s Day hosted by Adventist Health Sonora to recognize local women and young women in leadership roles in Tuolumne County and to learn more about how human relationships are vital to people of all ages and their health and well-being.
    • Adventist Health Sonora hosted Mental Health First Aid trainings, which teach the community how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults.
    • Participants build skills and confidence to: 
      • Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.
      • Recognize common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.
      • Understand how to interact with a person in crisis.
      • Know how to connect a person with help.
      • Use self-care tools and techniques.

Central California Network

  • Adventist Health Specialty Bakersfield partnered with the American Heart Association to bring a Heart Ball to Kern County, raising more than $300,000 to bring Hands-Only CPR into dozens of local schools.
  • The Central California Network participated in Hanford’s annual Food Drive, donating nearly 700 pounds of non-perishable food to Kings Community Action Organization. The donated food was delivered to Kings Community Action Organization’s emergency pantry at their Lemoore Warehouse. These items are available for first responders and KCAO staff, who have identified residents of our community who urgently need food. More than 1,400 students received free sports physicals across Kings and Tulare counties.

Southern California Network

  • Adventist Health Simi Valley
    • Adventist Health Simi Valley hosted workshops on topics to better utilize programs, services and timely resources for preventive services to help mitigate emergency visits. They also implemented a farmers market Be Coins match to encourage healthy lifestyles among associates.
    • Adventist Health Simi Valley was the main sponsor of Puka Nacua’s Youth Football ProCamp, which hosted more than 350 athletes between the ages of 6 – 12 years old. Held on May 18, players learned from Puka directly with drills and interactive games with the LA Rams’ rookie of the year star.
    • Four of our athletic trainers, including Darby White, Emily Ferialdi, Afsy Cruz and Maria Shibata, worked the event to provide medical services to all campers and staff. LA Rams physician and Medical Director of our athletic training program, Casey Batten, MD, presented a Doc Talk to parents focused on concussions.
    • Adventist Health Simi Valley’s emergency department participates in the annual Every 15 Minutes program. A two-day mock style event focuses on high school juniors and seniors emphasizing the impacts of drinking, driving, personal safety and the responsibility of making mature decisions.
    • Adventist Health Simi Valley participated in the re-enactment portion of the event by having the ED as the arrival destination for the accident. There were 12 volunteers that included doctors, nurses and staff who cared for the patient and family members. A YouTube video was created and titled Every 15 Minutes Simi Valley 2024.
  • Adventist Health White Memorial
    • Adventist Health White Memorial focuses on food security and nutrition by hosting weekly garden classes with community members. The classes include topics such as weeding, planting, watering, and feeding chickens and fish. The community harvests all plants they grew when ready. They collect all the vegetables after harvest and make a potluck lunch using all the ingredients from the garden.
    • Adventist Health White Memorial also partners with the YMCA to pass out 100 bags of non-perishable foods monthly, matching the perishable foods donated by local food banks.

Oregon Service Area

  • Adventist Health Portland partnered with the Oregon Change Clinic, an outpatient treatment facility that specializes in working with Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities, to provide low-barrier access to treatment referrals and wrap-around support for patients with substance use disorders.
  • Adventist Health Tillamook announced a $500,000 contribution in support of a therapy pool in the new North County Recreation District Aquatic Center that will serve as a central hub for therapeutic services, health, wellness, water safety and recreation, fostering physical activity and community bonding.
  • Adventist Health Columbia Gorge 
    • Recently, a Director of Technology & Trade at Columbia Gorge Community College (CGCC) discovered a unique opportunity for his students. While dropping off his child at Great N Small, an on-site childcare center at Adventist Health Columbia Gorge for forty-two years, he noticed the playground needed upgrades. Great N Small has nurtured multiple generations, many of whom have returned to work at the hospital, continuing the legacy of community and care.
    • With financing from the Adventist Health Columbia Gorge Foundation, students from the college’s Manufacturing and Construction programs were engaged in a project where they could apply their skills in a real-world setting. They designed, engineered, and constructed a new play structure, fabricating unique components and ensuring the design was modular, inclusive, and easy to modify or expand. Local high school students were invited every Friday to gain hands-on experience in the building trades, exploring potential career paths. Additionally, elementary school students toured CGCC’s facilities, learning about manufacturing and construction processes. The project's impact extends further, with additional grant funding secured to replicate the fabrication for a new play structure at Chenoweth Elementary, supporting their Head Start Program.

Hawaii Service Area

  • Adventist Health Castle - A paid medical assistant training program located at Adventist Health Castle offers hands-on training to successfully transition applicants into a medical assistant role. The program includes classroom and online curriculum, simulation for skills practice, testing and on-the-job training at our clinic sites. Students learn essential skills including introduction to healthcare, front office skills, medical terminology, medical records, medical equipment, interpersonal skills, anatomy and disease process, vital signs and more. This 10-week program prepares individuals to take the Medical Assistant Certification test upon completion of the curriculum, precepted hours and one year of experience. Participants receive a certificate of professional development from Windward Community College and later transition into a medical assistant role at Adventist Health Castle.
