DAISY Recipient: Danielle Sabroe
Department: 3 West
Nominated by: Patient, Samantha

From Patient: “On Thursday, January 18th I was admitted in the hospital. I was in a depressed mood from not being able to go home to my young children. I didn’t want to eat or really do anything, but Danielle wasn’t having it. She went out of her way to make me laugh and not feel so down. She told me jokes and chatted with me about my kids and brought me out of my depression. Every night that she was working, she made sure that I had a smile on my face instead of a frown. I looked forward to seeing her each night. She would make sure I knew what was going on. Afraid of losing my sight, she would just listen and show the compassion I needed at that time. She went above and beyond and made my stay so much easier. I never felt so much compassion from one nurse like I did with her. I wish I could do more to thank her.”

DAISY Recipient: Misty Childress
Department: ED
Nominated by: Physicians and Co-Worker, Christina Heflen

From Co-Worker: “I have had the pleasure of working beside Misty for the past six years in the Emergency Department and every shift with her has been a learning opportunity to be a better nurse. She has a lifetime of experience and knowledge that she has invested in herself which guides her ethical nursing practice with her patients under the most extreme pressures ever experienced in the ED. She has experienced difficult situations that most nurses would have been intimidated by, but she has overcome fear with her strength in her mindset that she will give the best care no matter the challenge that rolls through the emergency department's doors. She is kind to our staff and takes time out of her shift to teach the nurses and cares about building the emergency department team stronger than ever. Just recently we had a patient that arrived at the ER on Christmas Eve that was unconscious and in septic shock. The blood pressure was low, the heart rate was fast, she had a fever, and she was very dirty from the inability to care for herself for several days. In between hanging critical time sensitive medications, drawing blood, collaborating with lab, monitoring vital signs, performing medical procedures, doing EKG's, starting IV's, and assessing her deteriorating respiratory status, Misty did not miss a detail, but gathered soap and water and cleaned this patient head to toe ensuring that she was well cared for in every aspect and that she was properly washed after having no bath for several days. Most nurses are task focused on interventions and overlook the social aspect of how to really care for a sick patient. This woman needed everything, and Misty did not let her down. She worked hard making sure all meds were administered to stabilize the patient's severe septic shock. This patient stabilized after hours in the Emergency Department, and she was admitted to the ICU. This sick patient arrived very ill and could have died if interventions were not performed with efficiency and precision. Misty did just this working with Dr. Habibi and her ER team. The memory of this case will always stay with me because Misty truly modeled how difficult a role of an ER RN can be and provided the best care at bedside to this vulnerable woman. She is a nurse that will fight to save every life that passes through our doors of the Emergency Department and apply her exceptional knowledge and skills to ensure the most dignified care is given. I want to recognize her for her abilities to inspire her team and patients to do better and be better.”

Deb-Springsteen-4-Main.jpg

DAISY Nurse Leader Recipient: Deb Springsteen
Department: 4 Main
Nominated by: Co-Worker, Margarita Treto

From Co-Worker: “I would like to begin this nomination by describing the nurse that I am nominating. She is compassionate, knowledgeable, caring and extremely dedicated. She does whatever it takes to advocate for her patients and staff. Deb has been a nurse for many years and the love for her profession is noticeable every day she comes to work. She begins the day with a smile and a positive attitude that is contagious. She always shows her holiday spirit by dressing up and lights up the unit with her beautiful festive spirit. When I walk in to work and see Deb, I know it is going to be a great day because even if it is busy (as it usually is) she is ready to help a doctor, nurse, CNA or whomever needs her help. I have worked on many units and have worked with many wonderful nurses within the hospital so it was extremely difficult to select one, but I can say with my hand on my heart that Deb deserves this recognition and more for her daily love and dedication not only to patients and their families but all the 4 Main family. We are blessed to have her as a co-worker and a friend! Thank you, Deb for all you do.”
