Chico resident’s long battle with Atrial Fibrillation ends in triumph thanks to Adventist Health and Rideout’s Electrophysiology Program

In the late ’90s, Chico resident Jack Krause found himself grappling with a debilitating heart arrhythmia. His relentless spirit and passion for research propelled him into an exhaustive quest for knowledge, diving into peer-reviewed articles and studies on ablation procedures. Over 300 hours of research led him to believe in the potential of ablation to reclaim his way of life.

Jack’s journey took him to the greater Sacramento area, where he underwent his first two ablation procedures over a few years. Initially, these treatments provided relief. But in 2005, his arrhythmia re-emerged. Undeterred, Jack sought out one of the top electrophysiologists in the country, undergoing a third ablation that year and a fourth in 2009. While four ablation procedures are uncommon, they finally restored Jack’s heart rhythm, allowing him to feel like himself again.

This newfound normalcy lasted until 2022 when an intense game of pickleball triggered his arrhythmia once more. Jack’s cardiologists in Chico managed to stabilize his condition with medication, but knowing his history, Jack was referred to Dr. R.P. Singh at Adventist Health and Rideout.

From the moment Jack met Dr. Singh, he knew he was in the right hands. Dr. Singh’s expertise and the compassionate care from the entire team stood out. The fifth ablation procedure, performed by Dr. Singh and his team in the Adventist Health and Rideout catheterization lab, was a resounding success. Months later, Jack couldn’t be happier.

“I’m 78 years old, and I feel 30,” he said.

Jack attributes his recovery not only to Dr. Singh’s remarkable skills, but also to the supportive team at Adventist Health and Rideout. Their exceptional care left a lasting impression on both Jack and his wife, Leslie. Having experienced numerous hospitals over the years, Jack confidently states that none compared to Adventist Health and Rideout. His gratitude led him to recommend Dr. Singh to several friends in Chico, all of whom have since been referred to the electrophysiology team for their atrial fibrillation care.

Now feeling rejuvenated, Jack is embracing retirement after 45 years in education. He and Leslie enjoy traveling, gardening, and spending quality time with their family and friends, free from the shadow of atrial fibrillation. Jack’s journey is a testament to perseverance and the life-changing impact of exceptional medical care.
