Meet Pediatrics Nurse Practitioner, Cathy Boyle

We’re excited to welcome another provider joining our exceptional team. Cathy Boyle, PCPNP-BC, is a board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner who graduated from University of California San Francisco in 1986. She has spent the last 38 years caring for children and adolescents throughout northern and central California. Cathy is now seeing children and adolescents at Adventist Health Mendocino Coast Medical Offices in Fort Bragg. She will provide well child and adolescent exams, immunizations, and sports physicals.

Education and Background

Cathy Boyle has a strong educational background in the field of nursing. She earned her PhD in Nursing from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, Utah in 2017. Additionally, she has received specialized training in Pediatric Evidentiary Exam from the University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento in 1989, 1998, and 2008, as well as Adult Evidentiary Exam training in 2008. Cathy also holds a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco, where she completed the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program in 1986. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University Long Beach and California State University Dominguez Hills in 1984. Furthermore, Cathy started her nursing journey at American River College in Sacramento, where she completed the Registered Nurse Program in 1977.

With her extensive background in nursing, Cathy brings a wealth of expertise to her new role on the coast, where she will be providing comprehensive care for children and adolescents. Her responsibilities will include conducting child and adolescent exams, administering immunizations, and performing sports physicals.

One notable aspect of Cathy's experience is her specialization in handling cases of sexual assault and abuse. Throughout her career, Cathy has served as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Forensic Nurse Examiner, working closely with law enforcement, child protection services, and medical providers to provide forensic evaluations and medical care to survivors of sexual assault or abuse. She has testified as an expert witness in court, collected forensic evidence, and collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the well-being and recovery of her patients.

In addition to her expertise in dealing with sensitive and complex cases, she has also gained significant experience in general pediatric care. She has worked in various settings, including family practice centers, hospitals, and child advocacy centers, where she has conducted well-child and adolescent exams, treated common pediatric illnesses, and provided anticipatory guidance to parents and caregivers. Cathy's dedication to the health and well-being of children is evident in her commitment to ongoing education and training, as she has served as an instructor, providing standardized training on child maltreatment and related topics to healthcare professionals and law enforcement agencies. With her diverse range of experiences, Cathy is well-equipped to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to the pediatric population on the coast.

In recognition of her exceptional dedication and contributions to her field, Cathy has received several notable awards. She was honored with the Outstanding Commitment Award by the Sacramento Child Abuse Prevention Council in 2001 for her outstanding work as part of the UCDMC CARE Team. In 2003, she was recognized by the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office with the prestigious Rebecca Moore Award. Cathy was also the recipient of the Roger K. Warren Unity Award from the Sacramento County Juvenile Court in 2005, acknowledging her efforts in promoting unity and collaboration within the justice system. Her contributions were further acknowledged by the University of California, Davis Health Systems, as she received the Vice-Chancellor's and Directors Award in 2005/06. In 2014, Cathy was honored with the Outstanding Service Award from the University of Davis Extension, further highlighting her commitment to excellence in her profession. These recognitions serve as a testament to Cathy's exceptional skills, dedication, and impact in the field of pediatric care and forensic nursing.
