The Medical Education Department drives the core strategy of our teaching programs and continuing education. Through our programs and services, medical students, residents, and practicing providers alike can advance their clinical skills and participate in research. Our department centralizes much of the educational and training opportunities, as well as the scholarly activity at Adventist Health White Memorial.

The Medical Education Department is comprised of three core areas:

Undergraduate Medical Education

We have designed our Undergraduate Medical Education programs for medical students interested in arranging rotations at Adventist Health White Memorial. Through these rotations, students develop their skills under supervision from our dedicated faculty.

LLU Medical Students: For Elective rotations submit your request through Liquid Office. For Sub-I rotations contact the LLU Coordinator to the corresponding department.

Non-LLU Medical Students: Refer to VSLO –Visiting Student Learning Opportunities for rotation availability. Submit your rotation request through VSLO. If you have any questions, email AHWMstudentapps@ah.org or contact Patricia Sandoval at (323) 881-8840.

Graduate Medical Education

Adventist Health White Memorial has a longstanding commitment to teaching and training the next generation of healthcare providers. Our residency programs are deeply rooted in a history of teaching and service. We began over 100 years ago as a small storefront teaching clinic in the heart of Los Angeles. Within three years of opening, the clinic was so busy that community and church leaders decided to build a hospital — the hospital that is now Adventist Health White Memorial.

Today, we offer five residency programs to train the next generation of clinical leaders: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, Pharmacy, and Podiatry. Adventist Health White Memorial is accredited by the Joint Commission (TJC) and the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Each program is unique, but all center on the same goal: to provide comprehensive clinical training and to serve our community in a spirit of compassion and humility.

Continuing Medical Education

At Adventist Health White Memorial, we foster a culture of life-long learning. Our Continuing Medical Education (CME) opportunities are designed for physicians and healthcare professionals to improve their abilities as practitioners.

Foundational education resources include:

Lyman A. Brewer III MD Simulation Center

Through the Lyman A. Brewer III MD Simulation Center, medical students, residents, physicians, nurses and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel can practice their clinical skills through mock scenarios. The Simulation Center uses state-of-the-art technology so that clinicians can simulate a wide range of situations. Having this in-house service directly leads to increased training, improved patient care and better service to our community. Discover more about the Lyman A. Brewer III MD Simulation Center.

Courville Abbott Memorial Library

The Courville Abbott Memorial Library is available for faculty, residents and clinicians. The library is a resource for finding research materials and medical journals, as well as a quiet place to study.
