Located inside the Adventist Health and Rideout Regional Medical Center, the Emergency Department is the only emergency room between So. Butte County and Roseville.

The Adventist Health and Rideout Emergency Department offers high-quality emergency and trauma care twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. In our 44-bed Emergency Department, we see more than 70,000 patients annually. We are a Trauma Center and we offer a dedicated Trauma Program. We are also the Designated Control Facility and Modified Base Hospital for EMS pre-hospital care.

What to expect at the emergency department

Emergencies can strike at any time. The Emergency Department at Adventist Health and Rideout Memorial Hospital is here for you with high-quality emergency and trauma care twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. The facility is staffed with highly trained medical personnel well equipped to treat you in your time of need.

At Adventist Health and Rideout Emergency Department, we feel it is a privilege and our responsibility to provide every patient with a good experience.

Emergency department process

Our services include:

• Trauma center services
• Cardiac catheterization services
• Open heart cardiology services
• Stroke program
• Stemi-receiving center

Here in the Emergency Department (ED), we focus on customer service and starting your treatment as soon as possible. When you enter the department, you will be greeted and triaged by the Clinical Intake Team, a Registered Emergency Nurse and Registration staff. You will then be taken to a Triage area, where a medical provider specialized in emergency care will initiate your treatment. You will have your vital signs taken and a brief examination given to better evaluate your condition.

Testing results – the process

Studies, such as lab work, x-rays and other treatments will be initiated at that time. You may at that point be escorted to a treatment room in the department or you may be allowed to wait in our waiting area until the results of the studies are completed.

The times of the results may vary, but the average wait for results is 30 to 90 minutes. Your patience while waiting for results is appreciated.

We will do our best to serve you and get the results quickly!

Priority of care

People who are very seriously ill and injured will be seen first, even if they arrived at a later time then you. We will make every effort to keep you notified of potential delays.

Our ED staff will make frequent observations of the waiting room to check on you and others. If you have a need or concern, please check in with any ED staff.

Care and treatment

After being examined and evaluated by medical staff, they will determine what level of care or additional diagnostic tests or procedures you may require. For example:

• You may need admission to the hospital for further care. You will be assigned a bed based on your evaluation and care needs. At times, this creates a short wait for an available type of room, but we will do the best we can to get you to your assigned room as quickly as possible. Please, let us know if we can make you more comfortable.
• You may require more tests and treatment in the Emergency Department.
• You may require limited treatment and will be referred to a local physician or clinic for follow-up care prior to discharge home.

Visitors in the emergency department

Coming to the ED can be a stressful and scary experience. We understand that. Visitors are welcome, but the Emergency Department has a strict policy for visitors.

In times when we are busy, it may become necessary to have family or friends wait in the waiting area for patient safety and confidentiality.

If you or your visitors have any questions or concerns, please ask any of our department staff for assistance.

Discharge instructions

When it is time for you to be discharged from the Emergency Department, the staff will provide you with specific, detailed instructions in regards to your diagnosis and treatment.

If you have any questions, please feel comfortable in asking us so we can help you understand your instructions and treatment plan clearly.

At home

If the symptoms that brought you to the Emergency Department return, or if you notice warning signs the Emergency Department staff told you to look for, please follow the instructions provided to you or return to the Emergency Department so we may reassess your condition. However, if you feel you are having a life-threatening emergency and need help immediately, please call 911.

Services

The physicians, nurses and technicians that provide care for you in the ED have specialized emergency training. Such as physicians who are board certified in emergency medicine, nurses specially trained in all aspects of child and adult advanced life support, trauma and disaster and certified emergency medical technicians.

Phone and camera use

Adventist Health and Rideout is a cell phone-friendly environment, but please be considerate of others. Use of cameras and other recording devices is prohibited within the hospital.

Confidentiality

Out of respect for our patients’ privacy and the privacy laws, we do not give patient information out to anyone without that patient’s specific approval.
