If you are experiencing the signs and symptoms of a stroke or heart attack, a fast and accurate diagnosis is the key to determining the steps needed for your best outcome. Should I call 9-1-1?
Do not hesitate to call 9-1-1 when facing a medical emergency. We want to ensure you get the help you need. Emergencies that likely require an emergency room visit can include:
- Head injuries
- Spine injuries
- Sudden feelings of dizziness or disorientation
- Chest pain that lasts longer than a couple hours
- Slurred speech
- Drooping face
- Sudden fatigue or pain in the limbs
- Thoughts of suicide
- Blurry vision
- Coughing or vomiting blood
- Nonstop bleeding
- Severe or persistent vomiting
- Large, serious and/or facial burns
- Severe or traumatic broken bones
If you are unsure you are dealing with a medical emergency, call 9-1-1 and tell them what is going on as calmly as you can. Keep in mind that the emergency room should only be sought in actual emergencies.
